Ban Primate Experiments Hidden away in Australian research laboratories, hundreds of primates are being used in a variety of biomedical experiments. These primates – macaques, marmosets and baboons – are sourced from three government-funded, research-specific breeding colonies located within Australia. Aside from the clear ethical dilemma of using animals with high cognitive abilities and well-developed social structures as ‘tools for research’, the use of primates has been found to be poorly predictive of human outcomes. Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Victoria Inc. Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Victoria Inc.(PWSA) was established in 1978 by a group of parents of children affected by the syndrome. It's aims and objective was to serve as a support group to provide education, awareness about PWS and to one day have a respite home for their children. Today, PWSA Victoria continue to provide support and information to families and our fundraising efforts will help us achieve the wish of a respite home. Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare and very complex genetic disorder in which several genes on the 15th chromosome are deleted or unexpressed. The common characteristics of this condition include small hands and feet, abnormal growth and body composition (small stature, very low lean body mass and early onset childhood obesity), hypotonia (weak muscles) at birth, insatiable hunger, extreme obesity and intellectual disability. PWS is a lifelong condition and although lots of research is being carried out, to date there is no cure. There are no known reasons for the genetic accident that causes this condition, but we are learning more about PWS everyday, and there is hope. Hope that, through increased knowledge, we can help all people with this condition to live a fuller life despite their limitations. A minimum of 50% of the profit from all of the wines you purchase (listed below) will go to Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Victoria Inc. Thank you for your support. ... more
